A fatal shooting occurred at the drive-thru of a fast-food restaurant on Andrews Avenue, Pasay City, in Metro Manila. A taxi driver was shot dead on the spot after an altercation with two unidentified men.
Brigadier General Bernard Yang, the chief of the Southern Police District, stated that Colonel Samuel Pabonita, the chief of Pasay City Police, confirmed that the victim, a taxi driver using the alias Andrew, was 39 years old and from the Marulas community in Valenzuela City. Andrew was shot multiple times and was rushed to the Air Force General Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The incident occurred around 9:40 PM. According to Andrew's companion, Dandy, they were on their way to collect a debt at the restaurant's drive-thru. While they were in line, a Toyota Vios (license plate ABT 4515) collided with Andrew's taxi, leading to a heated argument.
Preliminary police investigations revealed that the two men in the car got into a conflict with the victim, which escalated into a physical altercation. During the argument, the two men tried to leave, but Andrew continued to pursue and argue with them. At that point, the car's driver pulled out a handgun and fired four shots at Andrew. Andrew was hit, fell to the ground, and died from his injuries.
The police reported that the suspects quickly drove away from the scene towards the direction of St. Teresa's Church. The police are currently pursuing them intensively and have identified the suspect's vehicle through its license plate.
Surveillance footage showed that the conflict started from a queue-jumping incident at the drive-thru. The sedan tried to cut into the line and collided with the taxi, leading to a fierce argument and eventually a physical fight. The footage also showed that the restaurant's security tried to mediate but failed to prevent the escalation. After the shooting, the sedan quickly left the scene, while the taxi still attempted to pursue.
At the scene, police found four .45 caliber shell casings. Andrew was hit by three bullets, two in the head and neck and one in the waist. By tracking the license plate, the police located the car in Bulacan province, but the owner insisted that the vehicle had not left its location at the time of the incident and provided video from the dashcam. The police are investigating the possibility of a fake license plate.
The case is still under further investigation, and the police are making all efforts to apprehend the involved gunman.
