At a one-day special job fair held by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Parañaque City and Makati City, 33 workers affected by the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (Pogos) ban found jobs.
According to preliminary data provided by the Department of Labor, a total of 340 Pogo workers registered for the special job fair, with 33 of them being hired on the spot by employers participating in the fair.
This means that the employment rate for offshore gaming industry workers was 9.7%.
Including other job seekers at the same fair, the Department of Labor data shows that there were 186 candidates.
The two job fairs attracted a total of 1062 job seekers, and were also open to other applicants.
This resulted in an overall on-the-spot hiring (Hots) rate of 17.5% during the event.
The hot jobs included baristas, sales consultants, cashiers, data encoders, sales assistants, housekeeping staff, waiters, kitchen staff, and drivers.
The department also added that there are 145 individuals who are considered hired or job-seeking, who may need to submit additional requirements and documents, or must undergo further testing or interviews.
Following President Marcos's announcement of the ban on the online gambling industry, the Department of Labor also held a job fair for workers who might be unemployed from the online gambling sector.
Ultimately, 108 employers participating in the job fair offered 13,744 job opportunities.
