An official from the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) claimed that there are currently only 100 operational Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) facilities left in the Philippines, down from 200 previously.

Gilbert Cruz, the Executive Director and Deputy Minister of PAOCC, cited a report from the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) stating that many POGOs have been shut down since President Marcos implemented a ban in July.

Cruz added that other companies have also begun to gradually cease operations.

"We are now monitoring the remaining POGOs. There were 200 before, but now the number we are monitoring has reduced to 100," he said.

PAOCC officials believe that the government can capture criminals who hide or operate in small groups.

"They choose their locations. But even if they hide in smaller groups, the signs are still there, especially at night," Cruz explained.

It is well known that POGO centers usually operate at night due to the time zone differences with their clients.

"Even if they split into smaller units, we can catch them," he said.

Cruz also revealed that lawsuits will soon be filed against local chief executives involved in illegal activities at these POGO centers.

In July, President Marcos ordered a ban on online gambling companies due to their involvement in criminal activities.

He directed the Philippine gaming company PAGCOR to "gradually close and cease operations by the end of the year."

Senator Win Gatchalian stated that the president might sign a bill to completely ban POGO operations in the country within the 19th Congress or before June 2025.

A technical working group will meet this week to prioritize the study of the proposed measures.
