According to Cambodian media, Prime Minister Hun Manet, while presiding over the 30th anniversary of the Royal Army's 70th Brigade, instructed the Royal Army, gendarmerie, and national police forces to jointly combat online gambling and telecommunications fraud crimes.
Prime Minister Hun Manet pointed out that the Cambodian government is committed to combating various criminal activities, including natural resource crimes, drug trafficking, and telecommunications fraud. To ensure the efficiency of these operations, the participation of the Royal Army is crucial, and if necessary, the army, including the land forces, should cooperate with the judicial police to jointly combat crimes such as online gambling and telecommunications fraud.
It is understood that in June this year, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sar Kheng issued a resolution to establish a task force to combat telecommunications fraud. The Secretary of State for the Ministry of Interior, Sok Phal, serves as the head of the group, with the Director-General of the National Police, Suon Phon, as the executive deputy head. The Secretary of State for the Ministry of Interior, Neth Savoeun, Deputy Secretary of State for the Ministry of Interior, Wu Vanna, the Mayor of Phnom Penh, and provincial governors serve as deputy heads.
The anti-fraud task force will search for telecommunications fraud dens nationwide, then coordinate with relevant departments to strike, and transfer suspects and physical evidence to the courts for trial.
