In Pailin Province, Cambodia, a 36-year-old Chinese man named Zhou Chunhua lost his life over $20,000. Two months after the incident, due to continuous appeals by the deceased's wife, the cause of his death was significantly reconsidered.
On October 15, Cambodian internet celebrity journalist Peng Wanna reported on Facebook that nine suspects had been arrested, including seven Chinese and two Cambodians. The Ministry of Interior's Criminal Police are preparing to take the case to court for legal proceedings.
As for whether the chief of Pailin Provincial Police, Sen Sokun, has been arrested, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior said: "Please refer back to the spokesperson of the National Police."
Previously, Zhou Chunhua was taken to the Pailin Provincial Police Station after being reported by a casino for stealing money. The police later stated that the case was a civil dispute and released Zhou Chunhua, but he died after returning to the casino. According to the police investigation report, Zhou Chunhua suddenly fainted and died from a head injury upon returning to the area. Multiple witnesses confirmed that he had not eaten for several days.
However, according to the death report released by the deceased's wife, Zhou Chunhua had been tortured before his death. On October 10, Peng Wanna also published a death report on Facebook, which completely contradicted the one signed by the aforementioned police chief, indicating that Zhou Chunhua had been tortured before his death.
This case subsequently triggered significant public outcry, and the Ministry of Interior intervened in the investigation.
