The head of the entity, Carlos Baigorri, stated that it is a large-scale operation, even larger than the blockage of the social network X that the Brazilian government executed two months ago.
Brazil.- The National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) initiated a large-scale operation to block thousands of domains in Brazil belonging to betting houses that do not have an operating license. The president of Anatel, Carlos Baigorri, shared details of this action and affirmed that it is even bigger than the one carried out by the entity a few months ago when the social network X, formerly Twitter, was blocked by judicial order throughout the Brazilian territory.
In statements to CNN, Baigorri explained that the blocking of the betting platforms began on Friday, October 11, after the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets (SPA) of the Ministry of Finance sent Anatel a list of sites not authorized to operate in the country in compliance with Ordinance 1.475.
“As soon as we received this list, we began to notify the nearly 20 thousand telecommunications companies in Brazil that have an Anatel license to provide Internet access,” he detailed on how the operation is carried out.
The president of Anatel highlighted that the scale of this operation is significantly larger than the recent blockage of the platform X (former Twitter) in Brazil. “In the case of platform X, it is about a single website, a single domain. Now we are facing about 2,040 betting houses,” compared Baigorri.
The complexity of the operation goes beyond the number of sites. Baigorri warned that it is common for illegal companies to seek ways to circumvent the blockage, which is why it is also necessary to carry out monitoring to ensure that they are put out of service.

“Part of this ongoing work is to monitor these attempts to circumvent the system, identify how they occur, and take the necessary measures to ensure that the blockage is effective,” he said.
