Sports Betting CPI Chairman, Senator Jorge Kajuru, confirmed that the committee has summoned West Ham United midfielder Lucas Paqueta to attend a hearing related to match-fixing allegations and to testify.
Last week, the senator announced that Paqueta had been formally summoned to testify at the end of October.
At that time, Kajuru stated: "I think it's absurd, it's despicable, this player is still in the Brazilian national team, being called up, participating in matches (he will play tomorrow, and next week as well), while his name is under thorough investigation.
"The evidence is conclusive. Yesterday we even heard the testimony of William Rogato himself, who clearly stated that Paqueta is indeed involved with his family, isn't he? Now another player related to him has revealed more information."
But now the senator has confirmed that this Brazilian international has been summoned to testify in court in response to the match-fixing charges he faces. Since he does not reside in Brazil, this can be done via video conference.
In May this year, the English Football Association (FA) accused Paqueta of violating the governing body's betting rules four times.
It is alleged that the West Ham United midfielder intentionally tried to get himself shown a yellow card in four Premier League matches between November 2022 and August 2023, to influence the betting market, "allowing one or more persons to profit from betting."
