The National Revenue Agency (NRA) of Bulgaria has intensified its efforts to combat unlicensed online gambling, having shut down over 2,500 illegal gambling websites since the beginning of this year.
This initiative aims to enforce the country's gambling laws and protect consumers from unregulated operators.
In September alone, NRA Executive Director Rumen Spetsov issued over 640 decisions demanding the cessation of operations for unlicensed online gambling platforms.
The agency provided a three-day grace period for the affected sites to voluntarily cease operations. Non-compliance would lead the NRA to submit the case to court, where a judge might instruct Internet Service Providers (ISP) to block access to the non-compliant sites.
To maintain transparency and keep the public informed, the NRA has published all decisions and court rulings on the online gambling section of its website.
Additionally, the agency maintains an up-to-date register of gambling websites operated by entities lacking a valid gambling license.
Moreover, the NRA encourages internet users to report unlicensed gambling sites, with individuals able to submit reports via email.
In other gambling news from Bulgaria, last week it was announced that Softswiss's Jackpot Aggregator has been certified by the International Gaming Lab (GLI), ensuring it meets all technical requirements for use in the Bulgarian market.
