The Finance and Taxation Committee (CFT) approved request 87/2024 from deputy Mário Negromonte Jr. (PP/BA) for a public hearing to discuss the impact of online betting on the population's indebtedness. The legislator requested the presence of the CEOs of Brazil's most important betting companies and representatives from the Ministry of Finance.
Deputy Negromonte Jr. “requests the holding of a public hearing in the Finance and Taxation Committee with authorized Bets in Brazil”, due to the Ministry of Finance’s Prize and Betting Secretariat – SPA-MF having released the list of betting companies that can continue operating until the end of this year in Brazil.
In addition to representatives from the Ministry of Finance, the following sports betting platforms and their respective CEOs will be invited to the meeting:

In his justification, Negromonte Jr. cites a study by the Central Bank on betting movement, which revealed that Brazilians spend, on average, R$ 20 billion per month on online betting.
According to the deputy, the study shows that more than 24 million individuals made at least one betting transaction via Pix in the first eight months of 2024, pointing to the urgency of mechanisms to prevent indebtedness and addiction. Given this scenario, the BC is assessing the impact of online betting on the population's indebtedness and how it may influence the country's interest rate policy.
“We understand that the debate on the subject is timely as it deals with an extremely important issue for the Brazilian financial and tax system, therefore we request the support of our noble peers for the approval of this Request”, he justifies.
