The Bureau of Immigration (BI) Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) agents arrested a South Korean man wanted in his country for illegal gambling.
Philippines Bureau of Immigration Director Joel Anthony Viado arrested 42-year-old Choi Jong-guk in a popular entertainment district in Brgy. Tambo, Parañaque City.
Choi Jong-guk has been on the Philippines Bureau of Immigration's wanted list since 2019, when he was accused of operating an illegal gambling website catering to Korean clients betting on sports events.
It is alleged that he made money by selling sports betting tickets online, violating the country's National Sports Promotion Act.
Meanwhile, the Philippines Bureau of Immigration also reported the arrest of another South Korean national wanted by the authorities for illegal drug trafficking.
Viado confirmed the fugitive as 37-year-old Seo Jungchul, who was arrested by the BI FSU on October 7 in the Clark Freeport Zone, Angeles City, Pampanga.
Seo was deported in 2019 due to his undesirable foreigner status.
He is a subject of an Interpol Red Notice and has been overstaying in the Philippines, attempting to evade arrest and prosecution for his crimes in South Korea.
Seoul Central District Court issued an arrest warrant for him in 2017, after he was indicted for violating the country's Narcotics Control Act.
The South Korean authorities accuse Seo of purchasing, consuming, and trading Philopon, a common drug of abuse in South Korea.
Both Choi and Seo are considered undocumented foreigners as their passports have been revoked by the government.
They will be detained at the immigration facility inside Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City until they are deported.
