The National Revenue Agency (NRA) took decisive action against illegal online gambling in 2024, shutting down more than 2,500 websites operating without valid licenses. In a press release on Wednesday, the agency reported a significant increase in its enforcement efforts, aiming to curb unlicensed gambling activities across the country.

NRA Executive Director Rumen Spetsov issued over 640 orders to suspend online betting platforms that lacked the necessary permits in September alone. According to the agency, once an order is issued, the affected platforms are required to stop their operations within three days.

If they fail to comply, the NRA escalates the matter to the courts, which can direct internet service providers (ISPs) to block access to these websites.

The NRA has made it easier for the public to track these enforcement efforts. Both the agency’s decisions and any resulting court rulings can be found in the Online Gambling section of the NRA’s website. An up-to-date register of gambling websites that operate without a proper license is also available, allowing users to stay informed about which platforms are non-compliant.

In addition to its internal actions, the NRA is encouraging the public to play a role in identifying illegal gambling websites. Users can report unlicensed platforms by emailing details of the site and their internet service provider to the agency.
