The police confirmed that the Chinese citizen kidnapped yesterday is associated with an online gambling company in Bustos, Bulacan Province.
PNP PIO (Philippine National Police) Chief BGen Jean Fajardo stated that this is based on the preliminary analysis conducted by the Philippine police's anti-kidnapping unit.
He mentioned that so far, the victim's camp has paid a ransom of 5 million pesos.
However, the payment was made through cryptocurrency.
Despite the ransom payment, the Chinese victim has not yet been released.
According to statements from crime witnesses, the victim was fishing with other Chinese citizens when four men approached.
Subsequently, it is alleged that they took the victim, stuffed him into a car, and then fled to a bypass in Bustos, Banga Menor.
The victim's cohabitant went to the Bustos City Police Station, reporting that the victim's cousin received a text message in which the criminals demanded a ransom of three hundred thousand dollars.
The PNP-AKG (Philippine National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group) is currently in contact with foreign counterparts to determine where and to whom the ransom was paid.
