Representative Belén Malaisi introduced a project that involves a change in Article 55 of the regulation.

Argentina.- The representative from the Province of Buenos Aires, Belén Malaisi, revived a project she authored that modifies the Buenos Aires Education Law with the goal of blocking online gambling sites from school internet networks.

“It is time to move forward with structural changes that limit the access of the youngest to online gambling platforms,” stated the legislator from San Andrés de Giles through her social networks.

Malaisi proposes a change in Article 55 of the Buenos Aires Education Law, so that the General Directorate of Culture and Education (DGCE) of the province of Buenos Aires can fully engage in the fight against online gambling in school classrooms, the main scene of problematic gambling activity by young people.

In her initiative, Malaisi pointed out that cases of gambling addiction in public and private schools in Buenos Aires have been increasing recently, which she considered necessary to “take urgent measures to limit this practice in our young people”.

“The use of technology in teaching and learning processes, access to information, cannot be denied to such an extent that the Education Law has a specific chapter on virtuality. But neither can the dangers that certain platforms or gambling sites on internet social networks pose to our young people and children, encouraging gambling addiction or compulsive gambling,” indicated the legislator, in the grounds of the text.

Furthermore, the representative recalled that in 2017 the Buenos Aires Ombudsman's Office created the Observatory of Addictions and Problematic Consumption which, among its objectives, aimed to end the scourge of gambling addiction. This year, the entity published a guide that offers a series of recommendations for responsible gaming, prevention tools on online platforms, and a self-assessment test to find out if one is suffering from this disease.

The head of Sectur indicated that, by instruction of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, the benefits derived from economic growth in the tourism sector will reach all links of the production chain, especially to the most remote communities of the country, where the inhabitants feel heard and recognized, which will contribute to stability and social peace.

Reyes Sandoval remembered that, after 50 years of existence and with a current enrollment of more than 4,100 students, the EST has demonstrated the quality of its graduates, many of whom hold prominent positions in the Ministry of Tourism, the World Tourism Organization (WTO), and in major hotel chains. This reflects the academic and professional level that distinguishes both the school and the IPN.
