Argentina.- The Social Development and Public Health Committees of the Chamber of Deputies of Entre Ríos, chaired by Carolina Streitenberger and Silvio Gallay respectively, discussed this Tuesday, October 22, two projects related to the regulation of online gambling. The meeting was attended by provincial authorities, including representatives from the Institute of Financial Assistance to Social Action (IAFAS).
One of the legislative proposals addressed, presented by Streitenberger, provides for a regulation of online gambling as well as tools for prevention and comprehensive approach to gambling addiction linked to these types of games. The other initiative belongs to Carlos Damasco and involves the creation of the provincial registry of online gamblers.
“These projects are based on the need to start protecting children and adolescents who are exposed to gambling addiction, which is a disease of this new era,” stated Gallay, “There is a tendency to regulate, especially to prevent children, youth, but also adults, from engaging in illegal gambling that can lead to problematic consumption,” he added.
“These projects will continue their usual treatment in the Social Development and Public Health Committees,” mentioned the legislator.

For her part, Streitenberger explained that her project “establishes clear rules regarding the scope of application, regulates advertising, and the measures of control and security to access these platforms.”
She also explained that the text provides for the creation of “trainings in the educational field, but not within the school curriculum, rather workshops/meetings, that have an impact today, immediately, which is when the issue is being highlighted; in addition to preventive campaigns led by the Directorate of Prevention and Control of Addictions of Entre Ríos or the agency that may replace it in the future.”
