Federal Deputy Cleber Verde presented in the Chamber the Bill 4034/2024, in which he proposes increasing the tax on sports betting and online gaming houses from 12% to 20%. The objective of the legislator, by amending what has already been established in Law 13.756, is to expand investment in public policies, especially those developed within the scope of social security.
In his justification, Deputy Cleber Verde (MDB-MA) states that the way in which the percentages were distributed in Law 13.756 limits the government's investment potential in areas that positively impact the lives of Brazilians.
Cleber Verde says that in addition to expanding the State's capacity to respond to social demands, the change will generate a multiplier effect in various areas, especially those most directly impacted by the strengthening of social security.
“Investing a larger volume of resources in initiatives aimed at reducing poverty and social inequality, promoting access to public health, professional training, assistance and social security, and generally, the social inclusion of the most needy and vulnerable population, contributes to economic development”, the legislator defends.
In asking for the support of other deputies, Cleber Verde states that “the measure will allow a more socially just use of the resources generated through these lotteries, expanding investment in public policies - without, however, disregarding the demands and the necessary sustainability of the activity carried out by the betting operators, who will still preserve, in the form of the wording now presented, a significant percentage allocation in the collection”.
The Bill 4034/2024 awaits dispatch from the president of the Chamber of Deputies to begin its proceedings in the house.
