The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) and the Gambling Commission (GC) have officially established a regulatory partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking progress in their collaboration.
The agreement aims to enhance the exchange of information and intelligence between the two regulatory bodies, supporting the shared goals of protecting consumer rights, preventing criminal activities, and safeguarding vulnerable players from gambling-related harm.
As the gambling industry becomes increasingly globalized, both regulatory bodies emphasize the importance of cross-border cooperation. Therefore, by exchanging best practices and insights, MGA and GC hope to strengthen their regulatory frameworks and more effectively address common challenges.
Discussing the formal partnership, GC Chief Executive Andrew Rhodes said: "We welcome this agreement, which is a sign of MGA and GC's continued collaboration. We have been working closely for some time, and after a successful visit this summer, it was only fitting to formalize our working relationship."
It is important to note that future cooperation between the regulatory bodies will include initiatives in anti-money laundering, sports betting integrity, and addressing industry challenges.
"We look forward to continuing to strengthen our efforts, raise industry standards, tackle common challenges such as illegal gambling, and explore future collaborations, including initiatives to track and address key issues in areas like anti-money laundering and sports betting integrity," Rhodes added.
MGA Chief Executive Charles Mizzi commented: "Our long-standing informal cooperation with GC has already yielded meaningful results, and formalizing this cooperation is undoubtedly a step in the right direction."
"Based on our regulatory goals, we believe this collaboration will enable us to more effectively address common challenges and continually enhance the effectiveness of our processes and frameworks," Mizzi concluded.
