On October 28, 2024, the Philippine House of Representatives' Committee on Government and Public Accountability is considering filing corruption charges against Vice President Sara Duterte, related to the Department of Education's confidential fund of 1.125 billion pesos in cash advances in 2023.
According to Congressman Aurelio Gonzales Jr., the records of these funds lack transparency and were mistakenly labeled as other operational expenses, raising concerns about potential misuse.
Gonzales noted that three amounts were withdrawn in the form of 37 million pesos checks, with the recipient being the special appropriations officer Edward Fajarda, who has repeatedly been absent from the hearings during the investigation.
As of now, the Vice President's office has not issued any statements. Duterte will attend the hearing today.
