GambleAware has released the donation data for the first quarter of the fiscal year 2024/25, reporting that the donations for research, prevention, and treatment (RPT) from April to June 2024 amounted to £294,722.99 (US$382,745).
The organization also received £40,000 in regulatory and resolution funds through a single operator agreement with the Gambling Commission.
The data for the first quarter aligns with the historical pattern of the past four fiscal years, where the proportion of annual donations in the first quarter is typically smaller than in the fourth quarter.
This year may mark the end of the voluntary funding model for gambling-related harm initiatives, as statutory taxation is expected to be implemented in the upcoming fiscal year.
Under the current system, GambleAware relies on donations from gambling operators, who are required to donate at least 0.1% of their annual gross gambling yield (GGY) to support efforts aimed at reducing harm.
It is noteworthy that this fiscal year is significant as it may be the last period of voluntary donations before the implementation of a statutory tax system.
Small operators with an annual GGY of less than £250,000 are encouraged to donate at least £250.
On this development, GambleAware CEO Zoe Osmond stated: "As we transition to the new system, it is essential to maintain funding at the same level as previous years to ensure that the prevention and treatment services for gambling harm do not face disruption."
The largest donations came from Star Racing (£27,547.37), ProgressPlay (£24,346.68), Virgin Bet (£21,753.00), Postcode Lottery (£20,000.00), and Welcome Break (£19,300.00).
