According to Thai media reports, on October 29, 2024, the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) Special Operations Unit, in collaboration with the Chonburi Provincial Police, Chonburi Immigration Office, and the Bang Lamung District Administrative Office, obtained a search warrant from the Pattaya Provincial Court to conduct raids on two luxury residences in the Pong and Nong Pla Lai sub-districts of Bang Lamung, Chonburi. The raids targeted evidence and connections related to Chinese grey market syndicates, online gambling groups, telecommunications fraud, and informal high-interest loans.
The first house inspected was a two-story luxury detached house, approximately 80 square meters, located in the Nong Pla Lai district.
At the scene, a Chinese woman came forward to claim ownership of the house. The search team found some suspicious documents inside and confiscated a computer for examination.
The second house inspected was a single-story house covering nearly 2 rai, located in the Pong sub-district, with two Chinese women inside.
Upon preliminary inspection, the police found important documents related to the Chinese grey market, including documents, computers, and a safe, all of which were seized as evidence.
The DSI's operation initially included synchronized searches at 10 locations nationwide, including Bangkok, Phutthamonthon, and Chonburi.
The searches aimed to dismantle Chinese grey market syndicates operating illegally in Thailand, including gambling websites, telecommunications fraud, and informal lending. The DSI will hold another press conference to announce further details.
