The Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) filed illegal detention complaints against eight Chinese nationals on Wednesday, accusing them of involvement in illegal activities of a Philippine offshore gaming operator (POGO) company located in Banban, Tarlac province, which was raided.
Chief Brigadier General Nicolas Torre III of the PNP-CIDG submitted a complaint to the Department of Justice against the Chinese nationals, accusing them of detaining two Chinese citizens.
According to Torre, the defendants were named in previous cases.
He also stated that the two Chinese victims were forcibly detained.
“They were forced to work against their will. They want to go home, to end it all, but they are not allowed to leave,” Torre said in an ambush interview.
Torre mentioned that both the victims and the defendants are currently detained by the police.
In March, authorities raided the Banban POGO center and rescued over 800 Filipinos and foreigners from the compound.
Meanwhile, the dismissed mayor of Banban, Alice Guo, is facing human trafficking charges in the Pasig court, as well as corruption charges in the Valenzuela court.
The Manila court has also filed a request for a legality review against Guo, and the Tarlac court has filed a request to cancel her birth certificate.
She is also facing tax evasion charges, 87 counts of money laundering, and charges of perjury and forgery by the Department of Justice.
