Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna has made it clear that the city government will strictly enforce policies, resolutely prohibiting any Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs) from continuing operations in the city, and will not allow any operations beyond the deadline set by the president.
Mayor Lacuna urges POGO operators to immediately cease their operations, emphasizing that there is no need to wait until the last moment of the year to comply with President Marcos' directive.
President Marcos had requested in his State of the Nation Address that the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) completely stop POGO operations by the end of the year.
Furthermore, Lacuna has also requested all landlords of buildings potentially associated with POGOs to issue notices in a timely manner, to ensure that these tenants no longer engage in any form of POGO operations, as this has been identified as illegal activity.
In response to the unemployment caused by the cessation of POGO operations, Lacuna noted that the Public Employment Service Office (PESO), led by Bermudez, is regularly organizing job fairs to assist the unemployed in finding new jobs. The mayor encourages residents to actively participate in these recruitment events to quickly find suitable employment.
