Spain.- On Tuesday, October 29, the Valencia community experienced the largest natural tragedy in its history, the passage of the DANA. DANA stands for Isolated Depression at High Levels, a meteorological phenomenon that occurs annually, but this time something went wrong: the population was never timely alerted. Thus, in the early hours of that day, it took the inhabitants of southern Valencia, Castilla-La Mancha, and Andalusia by surprise, and there was no time to evacuate.
More than 200 dead, and the number is expected to rise, according to authorities, due to the floods and thousands of victims were the result of this fatal oversight.
In light of the situation, the entire country of Spain has mobilized to assist the victims, encourage volunteering, and collect donations from all corners of Europe to mitigate the impact of this tragedy. At the same time, we want to thank the enormous effort deployed by the state security forces, military, firefighters, civil protection, doctors, psychologists, etc., and, in short, to all those people who selflessly and solidarily are coming to support the countless victims left by this storm.
We hope that all those affected by this tremendous drama can recover a certain normality as soon as possible, as well as that this catastrophe serves, at least, to take measures that may try to prevent similar situations from being suffered in the future.»
