Colonel Jessada Yangnok of the Wang Thonglang Police Station, Children and Women Protection Department, together with the Bangkok Police Investigation Team and Wang Thonglang Police Station, conducted a raid in Wang Thonglang district's Soi Sahakon Pramul and uncovered a very concealed "Chinese casino".
In this operation, the Thai police arrested a total of 21 suspects, including 8 gamblers, and seized evidence including black chips (representing 10,000 Thai Baht cash, 396 pieces), yellow chips (representing 1,000 Thai Baht cash, 228 pieces), red chips (representing 500 Thai Baht cash, 396 pieces), 12 green chips, 12 transparent chips, 2 decks of playing cards, and 4 sheets of paper showing chip exchange tables.
The arrest location was in Bangkok's Wang Thonglang district, Wang Thonglang Street, Soi Sahakon Pramul.
The arrests were made following complaints from the public about gambling activities in the area. Investigation revealed that Chinese individuals would use social media channels, including WeChat, to arrange meeting places, forming mobile casinos to find gambling venues. Once they found a place, they would agree to gather and gamble together.
Moreover, from the information about the secret gambling building, it was originally a Chinese restaurant, but it closed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, it is an ordinary building, not operating as a restaurant, but the sign has not been removed.
In the initial action, they were charged with joint gambling (poker), gambling without a license, and organizing illegal gambling. All suspects admitted to all charges and were subsequently taken to Wang Thonglang Police Station for further legal proceedings.
