Vanessa Arenram, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility at Play’n GO, shares her impressions on the work the company has done to set a new standard in sustainable entertainment.

Press release.- Play’n GO is a company whose goal has always been to be "the best entertainment provider there is." Under this premise, the company has worked to pioneer a new era of sustainable entertainment.

From advancing their carbon measurement capabilities to significantly reducing their footprint through a "Digital First" approach, Play’n GO is "supercharging its climate journey into the future."

Their goal is simple yet ambitious: to have the product portfolio with the smallest carbon footprint in the industry and to be the provider of choice for operators who prioritize sustainable entertainment.

In the following article, Vanessa Arenram, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility at Play’n GO, explains in detail how the company works to achieve this goal. Vanessa led the development and implementation of the company's ESG strategy and played a key role in drafting Play’n GO’s Sustainability Report.

We have recently reached a key milestone with the establishment of a carbon footprint baseline for 2023. Having developed our data management capabilities over the past few years, with valuable help from our sustainability platform partner, "Position Green," we have a complete picture of our emissions, which amount to just over 1,500 MTCO2e with a margin of error of 5 percent. This creates a solid foundation for tracking progress and setting ambitious reduction targets.

Our journey in carbon measurement has shown clear progress over the past three years, and thanks to the continuous refinement of our data, we have improved our understanding of our impact and can act with conviction and determination.

As carbon standards and best practices continue to evolve, understanding the details of our footprint is key to achieving specific reductions. For the base year 2023, we have better classified our Scope 3 emissions (supply chain emissions), setting a standard that reflects the unique dynamics of our industry.

Business travel represents a significant part of our emissions profile, along with events and conferences. Although all travel emissions are offset, and executive travel is offset at 200 percent, our teams continuously explore innovative ways to reduce this impact.

Scope 2 emissions (purchased electricity) have been significantly reduced thanks to the completion of our shift to "Digital First," and we are on track to achieve our 2024 goal of an 80 percent year-on-year reduction.

Sustainability is not just about controlling emissions, but also about driving meaningful change.

Our commitment to waste reduction has been strengthened by our "Digital First" culture, which allows us to reduce both physical and digital waste across our operations. By adopting digital tools like Microsoft Teams and Asana for collaboration, planning, and management, we have significantly reduced our physical footprint. Although measuring emissions remains complex, the impact of our digital transformation is clear: less waste, fewer resources consumed, and a lighter overall footprint.

By establishing a reliable baseline for our carbon footprint and adopting a "Digital First" approach, we are paving the way for more ambitious sustainability initiatives, and we are excited about the path ahead.

From data-driven carbon reductions to new innovations to make our content offering the most sustainable on the market, we are fully committed to making Play’n GO—and the gaming industry—a force for good.
