The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has issued the first Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) compliance seals to 14 licensed online gaming operators.
The seal is based on the voluntary ESG Best Practice Guidelines launched last year, designed to provide a structured framework for ESG disclosures for gaming operators.
The guidelines cover 19 topics within the pillars of environment, social, and governance, offering companies a way to enhance transparency and accountability through two reporting levels: Tier 1, setting the basic standards; and Tier 2, providing more comprehensive standards for businesses aiming to lead in ESG practices.
With the completion of the first reporting period, MGA recognizes that these 14 operators meet the standards specified in their chosen reporting tier.
It is noteworthy that among the certified operators, three companies stood out by meeting the requirements of Tier 2: Play'n Go Malta, Trannel International, and Tipico.
The seal is valid for one year and is renewable, allowing licensees to flexibly advance or adjust their reporting tier as their ESG strategies evolve over future cycles.
On this development, MGA CEO Charles Mizzi commented: "We believe this initiative will significantly enhance the industry's reputation and its credentials for sustainable development.
