Philippine President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos has officially issued an executive order banning offshore gambling, online gambling, and other offshore gambling operations in the Philippines.
Executive Order No. 74 stipulates that the ban on POGO and online gambling licenses should include illegal offshore gambling operations, license applications, license renewals, and cessation of operations.
In his third State of the Nation Address (SONA), Marcos announced that all POGOs in the country will be banned starting July 22, 2024. Previously, raids on illegal POGOs uncovered equipment used for torture, romance scams, and other criminal activities.
Marcos has directed the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) to ensure that all POGO operations cease by the end of the year.
