Chairman of the CPI on Game Manipulation and Sports Betting, Senator Jorge Kajuru (PSB-GO) stated that he wants to prevent bets from being placed on cards, corners, throw-ins, and even on goal scorers, due to repeated cases of suspected manipulation of results to benefit bettors. Kajuru said he passed his suggestion to the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who agreed with the idea.
“The main point of my idea is that, starting January 1st, you can no longer bet on yellow cards, red cards, corners, manual throws, or anything similar. You can only bet on the game's outcome. Not even on who scored, because there could be a manipulated own goal, with bribery. This was my idea, which President Lula accepted immediately,” revealed Kajuru on his program on “BandNews Goiânia” radio this Thursday (11/7).
“Every day we learn about a player who received a yellow card, who was expelled, who scored an own goal, who committed a penalty, who took bribes, manipulated football results, and made many people win a fortune in bets,” he complained.
The lawmaker also revealed that he will propose that betting using resources from Bolsa Família and credit cards be banned, allowing only the use of Pix as a payment method, and adopting facial recognition as the sole form of access to ensure that minors under 18 are indeed prevented from betting. Kajuru stated he is against the general prohibition of bets.
“Some senators want to shut down betting houses. However, both in the media and especially among the 40 biggest football teams in Brazil, 38 live off the advertising from bets. Today they are the biggest sponsors in Brazil. How can a decision be made to end 100% of the betting houses?,” he questioned.
