According to reports, the French gambling regulatory authority is considering banning access to the prediction market Polymarket.
An anonymous source from the agency stated that although Polymarket is not specifically targeted at French users, the regulator could block its access.
As reported by Big Whale, the regulatory body became interested in Polymarket following rumors that an unnamed French trader made a profit of 19 million dollars after correctly predicting Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential election.
Although initially shunned by mainstream media, Polymarket consistently showed Trump leading Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, sometimes by double digits.
However, several US officials, including Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Chairman Rostin Behnam, have warned that prediction markets offering unregistered derivative contracts to US residents could face enforcement actions.
Behnam had previously revealed that the CFTC is closely monitoring offshore prediction markets, including Polymarket.
