On Tuesday (12), after numerous postponements, the Senate established the CPI of Bets. The Commission proposes to investigate the operation of betting sites and the impact of the activity on the income of Brazilians. Senator Hiran was chosen as president and Alessandro Vieira as vice-president, while the author of the request, Soraya Thronicke will be the rapporteur. The CPI will have 130 days to conclude its work.
Since the beginning of October, the Senate had been managing the agenda for the installation of the CPI, requested by Soraya Thronicke (Pode-MS) to investigate the operation of betting sites, the impact of the activity on the income of Brazilians, and possible involvements of the entity with criminal organizations.
Finally, on this Tuesday (12), the Commission was installed, with the appointment of Senator Dr. Hiran (PP-RR) as president of the CPI. He will have alongside him Alessandro Vieira (MDB-SE), as vice-president, and Soraya Thronicke chosen as rapporteur. The CPI will have 130 days to conclude its report. To this end, it will have to follow testimonies from influencers, betting houses, Public Ministry, Secretary of Prizes and Bets, associations, and other entities to be summoned during the work.
One of the constant themes of the request that gave rise to the installation of the CPI is the investigation of "possible association with criminal organizations involved in money laundering practices, as well as the use of digital influencers in the promotion and dissemination of these activities".
The installation of the CPI had been announced for October 25, after the reading of the request in Plenary by the president of the House, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG). It was postponed until now due to the dean of the Senate, Otto Alencar (PSD-BA), to whom each preside over the installation of a CPI.

Work plan not revealed
In addition to the installation of the CPI, a work plan was approved that will guide the Commission, although it was not read by the rapporteur.
The senator only stated that the plan intends to investigate the "responsibility of influencers, analyze organized crime and currency evasion, as well as the conduct of betting sites".
Without knowing the dynamics of the sector and the way of operation of the companies of sports betting and online games, the senator even stated, about the conduct of the sites, that "they are manipulated for the person to start winning and, after becoming addicted and totally indebted, start to lose”.
