The decision was unanimously approved by the Legislature, following a proposal by Alejandra Ferrero.
Argentina.- With the aim of continuing the implementation of mechanisms that limit access to online gambling platforms, the project by legislator Alejandra Ferrero was approved in the Legislature of Córdoba, which urges the Public Prosecutor's Office to arrange the blocking of 429 web pages and sites of illegal betting.
«This project represents another link in the battle that has been waged against illegal online gambling and is a significant step towards protecting our citizens, especially the most vulnerable,» stated legislator Ferrero.
She then added: «With the approval of this block, we are strengthening the necessary tools to combat the proliferation of illegal betting and ensure a safer and regulated environment for everyone».
The blockage unanimously approved by the Legislature showed the interest maintained by the legislators in creating a regulated framework for the development of the activity and the search for new consensuses to achieve it, after the opposition's failed attempt to repeal online gambling in the province, in a vote that was decided by a single vote in September this year.
Nevertheless, the opposition sectors insist on revisiting the repeal of Law 10.793 and despite the legislative issue already being settled, they are carrying out campaigns to gain supporters.
The youth sectors of the Civic Front (FC), the Radical Civic Union (UCR), the PRO, Neighborhood Encounter (EV), and the Better Future Foundation organized a signature collection campaign to advance in this direction. Opposition legislators Walter Nostrala, Rodrigo Agrelo, Viviana Martoccia, Gregorio Hernández Maqueda, Daniel Juez, and Alejandra Ferrero, belonging to the Blocks that promoted the bill to repeal the norm in the Legislature, also participated.
“When we lost the vote, I expressed it in the chamber: we lost a battle, but not the war. Now we are driving this citizen campaign, so that a real dimension of the damage that gambling is causing is taken, and so that the Governor realizes that the State cannot be a partner in a business that sickens the youth,” said Walter Nostrala, president of the Civic Front block.
For his part, Rodrigo Agrelo from Neighborhood Encounter said: «We started this campaign trying to make visible the serious problem that Córdoba has with online betting. Many young people, teenagers, and entire families are getting stuck to this real pandemic. We cannot let Córdoba become a gambling den. We must raise our voices so that they do not overrun us».

It is worth remembering that, in order not to "politicize" the discussion, the organizers set out to create the Instagram profile “@noaljuegoonline”, through which they seek to spread and raise awareness about the issue.
Although Law 10.793 was not repealed as certain sectors proposed, after the debate that occurred in September, various modifications to the norm were advanced in order to better fulfill its objectives and consider other aspects that had been overlooked in the original drafting of the law.
