Senator Damares Alves (Republicans-DF) has taken on the rapporteurship of two bills currently under review in the Committee on Communication and Digital Rights, which could directly impact the business of sports betting houses. One discusses the sponsorship of sports events and clubs, and the other deals with bids for electoral outcomes.
One of them is the bill from the government leader in Congress, Randolfe Rodrigues (PT-AP), which aims to ban the advertising of so-called bets, including the sponsorship of sports events and clubs.
Today, betting houses sponsor 19 of the 20 clubs in Serie A. Betano, in particular, owns the naming rights to the competition.
The other is from the government supporter Jorge Kajuru (PSB-GO) and prohibits, under any circumstances, betting houses from allowing bids that attempt to predict electoral results.
It is also noteworthy that, in September, the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) formalized the prohibition of bets related to the results of municipal elections in the country. The senator from PSB now seeks to also ban betting at the state and federal levels.
Damares promises tough reports, showing the social damages caused by betting houses, such as recent allegations of addiction reported by users who lost everything, and even the use of the Bolsa Família card for sports betting.
