A 27-year-old Thai influencer was arrested for promoting illegal online gambling, earning 3,000 Thai Baht per post. After an investigation by Thailand's cybercrime division, she was arrested at her residence.
Kulltada, widely known online as "Baifern" from Udon Thani, is a prominent social media figure with over a million followers. She was summoned by senior Thai officers to address charges related to promoting unauthorized gambling activities. Her actions were deemed to violate laws prohibiting the promotion or encouragement of gambling without official permission.
The strict enforcement against such crimes aligns with the directives of Thailand's National Police Chief Kidira Panpae, whose primary mission is to combat crimes affecting public welfare.
Illegal gambling is considered a threat to family stability, prompting law enforcement to focus on influential individuals and public figures who might affect public opinion or behavior.
These individuals, including influencers and YouTube users, are often suspected of setting a bad example by promoting illegal activities.
The investigation revealed that Kulltada used a Facebook account named Baifern Kulltada to secretly embed links to gambling websites. This method aimed to lure the public, especially the young and impressionable, into participating in online gambling. The police tracked down Kulltada and gathered enough evidence to formally charge her.
"I was hired to post promotional content for online gambling sites and embed links in my posts," Kulltada admitted during interrogation.
She revealed that she earned 3,000 Thai Baht (approximately 85 USD) per post and had been engaged in these activities for two to three months.
According to KhaoSod, her posts often included provocative photos of herself along with gambling links, enticing fans to join online gambling.
The income from these promotional activities varied greatly, depending largely on the frequency of her promotional posts.
However, her actions did not go unnoticed by the law, and the illegal nature of her activities eventually led to her arrest and subsequent legal proceedings.
