The German Gambling Commission, Gemeinsame Glücksspielbehörde der Länder (GGL), has released an updated whitelist of companies operating within its jurisdiction.
The previous whitelist was a PDF document on the website, which the commission found to have some defects.
According to the Interstate Gambling Treaty of 2021, all gambling game organizers and intermediaries licensed in Germany are listed in a directory, which consumers and providers can consult on their own.
The newly updated whitelist is an interactive version of the list, featuring targeted searches and user-friendly filtering options, including different types of gambling such as sports betting, online poker, social lotteries, online horse race betting, and savings lotteries.
Users can also filter companies based on whether they have obtained a license from the GGL or a national gambling regulatory authority.
It is noteworthy that the GGL was established in 2023 as part of a plan to streamline gambling regulation, which was previously managed by 16 federal states individually.
Another new feature of the whitelist is the ability to view what types of licenses a company holds and the number of licenses, to better understand the business status.
The GGL emphasizes, "With the redesign, the GGL is achieving its goals of guiding the online gambling market and preventing gambling and betting addiction, as consumers can now directly see on the GGL website which gambling providers are legal or illegal."
Any company not on the whitelist will be considered illegal and unregulated.
Earlier this month, the GGL held a meeting with state coordinators to discuss how to enforce sustainable gambling regulation.
