The 8th Annual Responsible Gambling Week will be held from November 18 to 24, 2024, bringing together industry leaders, government officials, and regulatory bodies to advocate for responsible gambling behaviors.
This collaborative initiative aims to spark nationwide discussions on safe betting and highlight the available tools to help players maintain control.
The week-long event is organized by the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC), BACTA, and the Bingo Association, ultimately aiming to protect individuals from potential gambling-related harms - with a focus on promoting responsible participation.
Key stakeholders have emphasized the importance of this event. For instance, the Minister for Gambling, Lady Twycross, stated: "Responsible Gambling Week is a great opportunity for us to recognize the important work being done to protect those at risk of gambling harm.
"We welcome the industry's use of this week to introduce the available tools and support to prevent potentially life-altering harms. The government is currently considering a comprehensive gambling policy and will update in due course."
Andrew Rhodes, CEO of the Gambling Commission, added: "Ensuring safety is always at the core of all aspects of gambling.
"However, Responsible Gambling Week provides a valuable opportunity to further emphasize this priority. It also allows operators to share best practices, helping to make gambling in the UK one of the safest experiences worldwide."
This event builds on the achievements of previous years. For example, in 2023, Responsible Gambling Week saw record participation: social media exposure exceeded 50 million impressions, the use of safe gambling tools surged, and the number of players setting deposit limits increased by 54%—many for the first time.
The event also found that the number of players conducting reality checks increased by 300%, proving the event's success in encouraging proactive gambling management.
This year's event aims to continue these trends, expanding the reach of information both in physical venues and online platforms.
The new event also highlights the broader efforts of regulated operators promoting tools like deposit limits, timeouts, and self-exclusion.
