The Telegram Desktop application has been launched on Windows PCs for several years. Since 2017, it has also been available on the Microsoft Store. Recently, Telegram released the first official app version for Windows on ARM PCs.
Telegram began developing the Windows on ARM version based on feature requests on its GitHub page.
Due to technical issues, they were unable to continue. After some fixes by Microsoft, they were able to successfully compile the source code for the Windows on ARM platform.
Microsoft has been slowly but steadily working to improve compatibility issues for developers on Windows on ARM. In the latest Canary Channel Insider Preview version released last night, Microsoft made significant functional updates to the Prism emulator for Windows on ARM. This update will allow more 64-bit x86 (x64) applications to run under emulation.
Microsoft has released this new Prism update in the recently released Windows 11 version 24H2, enabling Adobe Premiere Pro25 to run on Windows on ARM PCs. With this new Canary version, Microsoft has extended this capability to any x64 application under emulation. Some games and creative applications that could not run on ARM PCs due to CPU requirements can now run with the latest Prism update.
In the past few months, the momentum for Windows on ARM has been strong as third-party application developers have released native applications. Chrome, Spotify, Zoom, WhatsApp, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, Blender, Affinity Suite, DaVinci Resolve, Arc Browser, NordVPN, ProtonVPN, and other popular applications can now natively run on ARM. Other popular applications, including Slack and Google Drive, are also about to be launched.
The increased availability of native applications and improvements in emulation capabilities may attract more users and developers to the Windows on ARM platform in the future.
