The regulations establish a framework for action to limit minors' access to gambling.

Spain.- The Government of the Canary Islands published, in the Official Bulletin (BOC), a decree law that includes urgent measures to ensure the protection of children in the field of gambling and betting. The guidelines are part of the regulations that establish measures to address temporality, efficient management, and quality in public employment of the Public Administration of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands.

The regulations indicate specific measures for the gaming and betting industry, mainly aimed at protecting minors, with the aim of establishing a framework for action to limit minors' access.

Among the highlighted actions in decree-law 7/2024, there is the tightening of access controls in gaming establishments, as well as greater advertising restrictions in places frequented by minors. Gambling operators will have the obligation to implement more rigorous age verification mechanisms, particularly on their online platforms, to ensure that minors are not allowed access.

The text introduces measures for companies to implement access controls that "ensure compliance with these regulations," as well as penalties for those who do not comply. On the other hand, the decree emphasizes the creation of informative and educational campaigns with the aim of "raising awareness about responsible gaming and promoting the adoption of preventive measures."

This set of measures aims to ensure the protection of children in the field of gambling and betting activities through decree law 7/2024, dated July 31.
