According to reports from Myanmar media, recently, the telecommunications fraud activities in the China-Myanmar border area have intensified again, attracting widespread attention. According to local residents, Myanmar's online scam forces have expanded to the new areas of Shan State and have settled in four townships controlled by the military committee and ethnic armed organizations.
At the end of October 2023, after a cleanup operation known as "1027 Action" in the area, the fraudsters moved to Dangyang, 83 miles southeast of Lashio. In Dangyang, there are more than three major distribution centers, employing hundreds of people.
These centers are not only protected by certain military forces but are also suspected of colluding with the military and all ethnic groups. Due to these scam businesses, the lives of young people have been greatly damaged, and some have even lost their lives due to drugs.
