The Director of Justice and Public Security, Vitor Hugo Do Amaral Ferreira, has issued a preliminary order prohibiting the publication of advertisements containing casino bonuses.
Order No. 2,344/2024 has been published in the Official Journal of the European Union and has become part of the current legal framework of the country.
The order aims to suspend any advertising related to casino bonuses, "even if just promotional" and "any fixed-odds online gambling (betting) advertisements targeting children and adolescents."
As explained in the publication, this is to prevent and combat problem gambling, excessive indebtedness, and to "ensure the safety of vulnerable groups within consumer relationships, with special attention to extremely vulnerable groups such as children and adolescents."
If operators do not comply with these conditions, they will be fined 50,000 Brazilian Reais per day until the issue is resolved.
It is worth noting that in May this year, Brazil also voted to ban promotional free bets.
The order also includes a clause that gives companies 20 days from the issuance of the preventive warning to resolve any issues.
This will apply to companies listed by the Ministry of Finance and the gambling authority that are authorized to operate in the country.
One of the latest companies to join the list is the regional subsidiary of Stake, Stake Brazil Ltda. The decision is based on the expectation that Stake will establish an office in São Paulo and hire local managers.
