The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) has announced a significant update to its technology platform, strengthening the global integrity monitoring network. The update provides members with advanced tools to protect authorized segments, ensure consumer safety, and preserve sports ethics. The launch is set to coincide with the inauguration of the regulated betting sector in Brazil, scheduled for January 1.
The technological update, developed in partnership with Bluehouse Technology, was specifically tailored to meet the operational needs of the IBIA. It simplifies the process of identifying and reporting suspicious betting activities, allowing for a quicker and more efficient response to potential threats to integrity.
The platform update is part of IBIA's ongoing commitment to invest in technological resources to combat betting-related manipulation.
The new platform enhances the ability to monitor suspicious activities, improve data analysis, and share actionable insights with key stakeholders.
This includes access to specific monitoring and alert data streams for key stakeholders such as gambling regulatory authorities, significantly improving interaction and cooperation that support important investigative activities.
This enhanced collaboration will play a key role in supporting investigations and strengthening confidence in the integrity of global betting markets.
Khalid Ali, CEO of IBIA, said: "The new IBIA integrity technology platform provides enhanced functionality and greatly improves our ability to analyze our members' customer account level data, which covers more than $300 billion in annual betting transactions, to identify and report suspicious betting activities. The update allows us to provide a technology platform that keeps up with the integrity requirements of our growing membership and the scope and scale of market data we receive in our broader intelligence network. the integrity of sports events and globally regulated sports betting markets".
Sharmila Pillai, Director of Bluehouse Technology, said: "We are thrilled to have worked closely with the IBIA to develop this new monitoring and alert platform. Our team worked hard to ensure that the project was completed on time and within budget, and we are pleased that it has undergone a rigorous independent security audit by a leading testing and certification company".
The IBIA's global monitoring network is a highly effective anti-corruption tool, detecting and reporting suspicious activities in regulated betting markets using transactional activities linked to individual customer accounts. The new platform provides a series of important technological advancements to assist this process, which has undergone an independent security audit conducted by Bulletproof, a Gaming Laboratories International (GLI) company.
The launch of the new platform occurs just before the opening of the sports betting market in Brazil, which is projected by H2 Gambling Capital to reach $34 billion in sports betting revenue by 2028, with IBIA members representing more than 70% of the market's gross betting revenue.
IBIA and the Brazilian Ministry of Finance have recently signed an integrity cooperation agreement that will allow the sharing of information about suspicious betting activities related to Brazilian sports.
Khalid Ali further commented: “The update of the IBIA monitoring and alert platform is particularly timely, given the imminent launch of regulated sports betting in Brazil. We are confident that this tool will provide best-in-class support for our new members and partners, including Brazilian authorities and sports bodies, to protect the market and sports events.”
The IBIA's third-quarter report detailed 42 alerts during the quarter. IBIA alerts contributed to the investigations and subsequent successful sanctioning of 21 clubs, players, and officials in 2023.
