This morning (November 27), another mass shooting occurred in Si Bun Rueang district, Nong Bua Lamphu province, resulting in 4 deaths.
The gunman is currently on the run, reportedly fleeing the scene on a blue off-road motorcycle.
The shocking incident was reported on the official Facebook page of the Narai Xuan Rescue Association, occurring around 8 AM at the Ban Fai Hin community in the Non Mueang sub-district of Si Bun Rueang district, initially confirming 3 deaths and 1 injury.
The gunman was identified as Samart or Mang, 57 years old, residing in the Ban Yod community. He was last seen leaving the scene on a blue off-road motorcycle.
At the time of the shooting, Samart was wearing a dark blue shirt, a black jacket, and trousers.
The rescue team also shared a video of the incident. The video shows Samart approaching a man in a white T-shirt who was sweeping the road and immediately shooting him. Samart then calmly walked away from the body, tucking the gun into his pants.
Rescue workers confirmed three victims dead, but the Matichon report claimed four fatalities. The official number of casualties has not yet been confirmed.
The gunman, reported to be a drug user, is believed to have fled to the Na Klang district.
This tragic shooting incident mirrors an event that occurred last October in the Na Klang area, where 38 people, including the gunman, died. The victims included children from a daycare center.
Last year's shooter was a former police officer with a history of drug use. After the mass killing, he returned home, killed his wife and child, and then committed suicide.
This latest incident is considered one of the deadliest mass shootings in Thai history, alongside the 2020 attack at the Terminal 21 shopping center in Korat, Nakhon Ratchasima province.
Recent gun violence has been frequent in Thailand, with a deadly shooting occurring on Monday, November 25, near Bangkok in Nonthaburi province, resulting in 4 deaths, including the gunman.
An eight-year-old girl was the only survivor, but according to hospital information, her chances of survival are slim.
The motive behind this particular mass shooting was an affair between the gunman and the victims, along with a debt dispute involving 80,000 Thai Baht.
However, the police have not yet closed the case and plan to conduct further investigations and interviews to confirm the true motive behind this shocking event.
