The president of the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel), Carlos Baigorri, will recommend to the CPI of Bets in the Senate to improve the law that regulates the activity in the country in order to allow the agency to block illegal sites from January, when the official market will be operational. Baigorri was invited by the CPI to clarify matters to the members of the commission. The date has not yet been defined, but it is expected to be next week.
In a recent interview with Folha, Baigorri stated that, as the law of bets was approved, Anatel will not have the power to take down the connection of about 5,200 illegal sites, as requested by the Ministry of Finance.
To Panel S.A. Baigorri evaluates that this situation will create a problem of competition between the official bets and the illegal ones.
"How will the relationship of the government with the bets that paid R$ 30 million to regulate themselves be if, suddenly, they have competition with these illegal sites that we cannot take down?", said Baigorri.
For the head of Anatel, the ideal is to change the section of the law that talks about blocks to include DNS operators (internet addresses, including those using masks, VPNs) and CDNs (local content server networks).
In the case of the blocking of X, determined by the Supreme Federal Court, Baigorri had to contact Cloudflare, a VPN company, so that it understood that all its clients would be disconnected in Brazil if it did not take down the connections of X that were masked via VPN.
