One of the leading sports betting and online gaming houses in Brazil, BETesporte has implemented a new initiative to educate users about responsible gaming and the necessary precautions. It features a frame presented by psychologist Marjorry Calumby, who addresses a series of influential topics on the subject in each episode. The content is weekly and airs on the company's Instagram profile.
The project's proposal is to work on psychoeducation and the safety of bettors, promoting a balance between fun and responsibility through educational and accessible content.
Short inserts are made of Calumby talking about the need to raise awareness among people about the importance of managing their emotions, setting safe limits, and adopting responsible practices when using the platform.
Marjorry specializes in CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and, in the videos, deals with important themes and practical strategies, based on evidence, for the best care of people who enjoy iGaming, focusing on mental, emotional health, and the well-being of users.
“Psychology plays a fundamental role in the universe of betting, as it helps to understand and manage the emotional and behavioral factors that influence bettors”, explains the psychologist.
“Through psychoeducational interventions, like the ones we are implementing on BETesporte's Instagram, it is possible to make players aware of the importance of recognizing their limits, also avoiding compulsive behaviors and maintaining emotional balance while they bet”, she adds.
One of the main commitments of BETesporte with this project is to assist in identifying signs of gambling-related problems, such as stress, anxiety, or financial difficulties resulting from uncontrolled actions. In return, it also offers support for users to develop higher and more responsible strategies.
“The goal, in reality, is to transform betting into a safe entertainment activity, minimizing risks and promoting the mental well-being of players. A demonstration of this is that the psychologist herself can contact the user, provide support, and direct them to specialized care”, explains Vinicius Nogueira, CEO of BETesporte.
In addition to detailing how treatment can be done to recover someone who is having difficulties dealing with these problems, Marjorry Calumby reveals that it is also possible to prevent the person from reaching such an advanced stage. For the psychologist, indeed, it is ideal to take measures in advance to control the situation from the first adversities.
“Avoiding reaching a stage of dependency in sports betting starts with adopting responsible practices from the beginning. It is important to establish clear limits of time and money to bet, avoid exceeding them under any circumstances that arise, keep the focus on betting as a form of entertainment and not as a way to make money”, Marjorry says.
“If bettors notice difficulty in controlling these impulses and feelings, it is very important to seek professional guidance from the first signs, to prevent the problem from evolving to a more serious stage. I always say that prevention is always the best path to take care of the mental and emotional health of sports bettors”, she concludes.
