Thai police dismantled an illegal cockfighting ring, arresting nearly 50 gamblers involved in the illicit activity, with an additional 30 escaping undetected.
According to Thai media Khaosod, police in Nakho Phanom province received a tip-off yesterday (1st) that a group was engaging in illegal cockfighting gambling in a rural area of Mueang District. Over 30 officers were dispatched to the scene to conduct a raid.
The report states that upon arrival, police found over 100 gamblers at an outdoor arena participating in cockfighting matches, many of whom fled upon seeing the police.
The police seized a pair of fighting cocks valued at 40,000 Thai Baht (approximately 1564 Singapore dollars), two cockfighting rings, a wooden cockfighting box, and a sign with the names of the cocks. Additionally, they found two timers and 520 Thai Baht (about 20 Singapore dollars) in cash.
The police stated that the venue operated on weekends, drawing many gamblers from Mueang District and Pla Pak District to watch the cockfights. The 49 arrested gamblers were all charged with participating in illegal cockfighting gambling.
