The Philippine Department of Labor (DOLE) acknowledges that the job fairs organized specifically for unemployed workers from the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) sector have seen low participation rates. Despite holding several large-scale recruitment events, the enthusiasm among job seekers has not met expectations.
Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma explained the reasons for the low turnout at a press conference. He noted that many job seekers might think that the deadline of December 31 will be postponed, and others may be looking for similar jobs with higher salaries. He also added that most of the positions offered are entry-level, which could be another reason for the lack of enthusiasm among job seekers.
Laguesma also emphasized that despite the final deadlines in January and February, the Department of Labor will continue to support the affected employees of the online gaming industry and assist workers holding Internet Gaming Licenses (IGL) in finding new jobs.
Between October and November, the Department of Labor held four job fairs in Parañaque City, Makati City, Caloocan City, and Pasay City, hiring a total of 202 IGL workers. Additionally, 435 workers received SSS unemployment benefits, 708 joined employment promotion programs, 118 received livelihood assistance, and 2 unemployed workers were referred for skills training.
The Department of Labor announced that a new job fair will be held on December 6, 2024 (Friday), in Binan City, Laguna Province, to continue assisting more unemployed workers from the online gaming industry.
