In October, sports betting companies in Ohio set a new historical high in sports betting revenue.
According to data compiled by the Ohio Casino Control Commission and the Ohio Lottery Commission, these companies took in nearly $901.4 million in bets. After paying out winnings and voiding bets, these companies generated nearly $106 million in revenue.
This made October the month with the highest betting volume in 2024, and the highest level since November 2023, when the betting volume was $865 million. Overall, Ohioans bet slightly more than $6 billion in 2024.
Ohio's 19 mobile betting apps accounted for the majority of the share, with total bets reaching $842 million and revenue reaching $102 million, a significant increase from the $535 million in bets and $47 million in revenue reported in August.
The state's 18 live betting rooms received nearly $21 million in bets, with revenue slightly over $3 million. Three betting rooms did not report revenue in September.
Betting stations located in bars and restaurants took in $1.2 million in bets, with revenue of $111,000.
In the spring and summer, due to the absence of football games, betting activity slowed down, but the data does not explain why. Ohio does not require sports betting companies to report data on specific sports.
