Half a month ago, a kidnapping incident targeting a Chinese man occurred in Phnom Penh. After successfully extorting a ransom of 1.25 million US dollars, the kidnappers released the hostage. Currently, the police have arrested 2 suspects, but 6 others are still at large.
At around 11 pm on November 19, a Chinese man named Lu Wei (transliterated) was taken from the lobby of a hotel in the Rongbian District of Phnom Penh.
Surveillance video showed that as Lu Wei was about to take the elevator upstairs, four men dressed in what appeared to be police uniforms quickly approached him. After a brief conversation, Lu Wei was taken out of the hotel and got into a parked white Alphard van, quickly leaving the scene.
The surveillance footage showed that Lu Wei did not resist violently during this process. A few hours later, Lu Wei's family received a call from the kidnappers demanding a ransom of 3 million US dollars. After negotiation, the family ultimately paid 1.25 million US dollars.
After receiving the ransom, the kidnappers released Lu Wei on a mountain in Kampong Chhnang Province, Cambodia, ensuring his safe return to Phnom Penh.
Recently, the police in the Gongwu District of Phnom Penh arrested two suspects involved in the kidnapping case, a Chinese man named Gu and his Cambodian wife. The police also seized a pistol, handcuffs, and police uniforms from them.
It is understood that the kidnapping case involved 8 suspects. Apart from the two who have been arrested, the remaining 6 kidnappers are still at large. Although the initial ransom demand was 3 million US dollars, the final transaction amount was 1.25 million US dollars, and the kidnappers kept their promise to ensure the hostage's safe release.
