Harry Roque, the former spokesperson for Philippine President Duterte, has recently been reported to have fled to the UAE, sparking discussions about his relationship with the former president's economic advisor, Mr. Yang.
Media speculation suggests that Roque's escape could be related to the support of Mr. Yang, particularly in connection with the activities of Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO).
Investigations have revealed that Mr. Yang and his business partners purchased several properties in the UAE in 2021. In May this year, Mr. Yang traveled to Dubai. Therefore, analysts believe that Roque's choice to flee to the UAE may be closely related to Mr. Yang and his business partners, who may have provided him with a sanctuary.
Additionally, insiders revealed that one of the reasons Roque chose Dubai might be related to a Chinese tenant named Anna. Roque had rented a townhouse in Benguet Province to Anna, who also owns real estate in Dubai. It is speculated that Anna may have played a role in Roque's escape.
Liza Hontiveros, the leader of the Philippine minority party, stated that as the government cracks down on the POGO industry, some criminals have moved their operations to overseas cities, especially Dubai.
She believes that Roque has close ties with many POGO operators, who may have assisted him in escaping the scrutiny of the Philippine authorities.
Although Roque has not yet responded publicly, his flight to the UAE has attracted widespread attention. Many question his motives and call on the Philippine government to take action to ensure he does not use international relations to evade legal accountability.
