Onésimo Diniz Moreira is the new general director of the State Lottery of Minas Gerais. The former technical director of the Institute for Development of the North and Northeast of Minas Gerais (Idene) was appointed by Governor Romeu Zema (Novo) on Thursday (28). His appointment must be approved by the Legislative Assembly.
The new general director replaces Ronan Edgard Moreira, who resigned last Tuesday. Moreira handed over his position to Zema on the eve of the Legislative Assembly of Minas Gerais (ALMG) voting on his nomination for the general directorship of the Lottery. The former general director had been interviewed in December 2023.
Onésimo inherits from his predecessor a public competition for the concession of the operation of online gambling for 26 years, valued at R$ 15.4 billion, which was suspended by the State Court of Accounts.
The new general director of the Minas Gerais Lottery was part of the second tier of Idene from April 2020 to December 2021. The technical directorate is one of the four directorates of the institute, which also includes the Directorate of Planning, Management and Finance, the regional directorate of North Minas, and the regional directorate of the Valleys.
Now, Zema will have to send Onésimo's nomination to the ALMG for approval. The House will consider the name of the new general director of the Minas Gerais Lottery after interviewing him. Until then, the former technical director will remain at the head of the agency as designated.
