The head of the Secretariat of Awards and Betting will answer the concerns of the senators regarding the regulation and control of companies.
Brazil.- The Parliamentary Commission of Investigation (CPI) on Betting will meet tomorrow, December 10, at 11 AM, to hear from Régis Dudena, secretary of Awards and Betting of the Ministry of Finance. During the meeting, he will be asked about the government's measures to control and monitor the betting market.
Dudena has already participated, in September, in the Parliamentary Commission of Investigation on Manipulation of Games and Sports Betting. At that time, he explained actions to contain possible irregularities in the sector and in national sports.
Now, the head of the SPA will attend the other CPI that investigates the actions and functioning of betting in Brazilian territory at the request of Senator Izalci Lucas, who seeks to clarify regulatory policies and combat illegal practices such as money laundering and manipulation of results.
Izalci Lucas stated that Dudena's testimony is fundamental to understand possible loopholes or gray areas in supervision. “The commission needs to understand the current regulatory policies, control mechanisms, and if there are failures that allow illicit practices,” he said.
But the commission's rapporteur, Senator Soraya Thronicke went further by reinforcing the urgency of the debate on the illegal exploitation of online betting. She considers that the games, although promoted as entertainment, fuel criminal schemes and cause deep social harm.
“These games provoke crimes such as money laundering, criminal association, and illicit activities. Moreover, they harm families and lead players to addiction,” she stated.

The CPI aims to seek ways and alternatives towards a more rigid and secure system. Therefore, the expectation is that the discussions will help curb illicit practices and establish the foundations for effective regulation.
