Among the changes, new criteria are established for the granting of gaming machine licenses.
Spain.- The Parliament of Galicia approved amendments to Law 3/2023, regulating gambling in the autonomous community. As published in the Official Bulletin, new criteria are established for the granting of gaming machine licenses.
Among the amendments, it is indicated that when the number of licenses is limited, their award must be made through a public tender. In addition, no more than two gaming machines per restaurant and leisure venue can be installed, and they cannot be of the same type. Licenses already granted for type B machines will not be included in the new limitations until January 1, 2025.
Another amendment is the obligation for establishments to have updated access control systems. The systems must prevent entry to individuals listed in the Registry of Persons Excluded from Access to Gambling in Galicia, also ensuring compliance with data protection regulations.
Procedures related to the infrastructure and design of establishments are also modified. Any substantial change in the original plans must be approved by the competent authority, ensuring consistency with current regulations.
On the other hand, this year, the Xunta de Galicia granted the license to Grupo Comar to open a new casino in Santiago de Compostela. The new establishment will be located at number 8 Vilagarcía Avenue, near Plaza de Vigo and the heart of the Ensanche area of Compostela. This will be the first casino in Santiago de Compostela, and Grupo Comar will be responsible for presenting the gaming offer for the city.
